The engine stops faster than the accessories... I think the new dayco resolves this, but I got a gatorback...
Search the forums for gatorback if it bothers you that much, or keep it in mind when you replace the s-belt or your waterpump.
I replaced my because I was replacing the water pump. The gator runs about $39 at Autozone. Actually a nice belt, but hard to find.

I think the guys misunderstood your question........you were asking why DOESN'T YOUR belt squeak.
Since you don't have your signature filled out.......I am guessing that your truck is a manual. As has been explained to me, the manual trucks have the bigger harmonic balancer, along with the higher mass of the clutch, and this prevents the truck from shutting down as quick as the autos. Since the auto shuts down so fast, the accessories don't have as much chance to stop and cause the chirp. Mine also doesn't chirp very often at all. I figure when it does, it has something to do with the timing of everything.

My belt chirped when I first bought the truck. I noticed the belt was cracked and in need of replacment.
On a service call to Cummins, I had them replace my belt... hasnt chirped since.
Rich.
