What's the highest PSI seen on a stock lift pump?
I have Dakota Digitals installed and over the past vacation trip I saw my fuel pressure surge to 23.5 PSI on a stock pump. Is this normal? I usually see 13 - 15 at cruising, I have never ever seen it that high. After a couple WOT runs, it went back to normal.

Tim

If its pulling more power that could happen and that may be an indication of future failure. It may react that way intermittently. You'll know for sure if it starts to pop fuses. I'd get it checked so you won't get stranded somewhere.

I noticed this morning on the way to work that it was running 10.8 to 11.2 at highway speed. This is strange, only 16,000 miles on the truck. I did see 7.6 PSI while pulling my 5'er uphill.
I am going to keep an eye on it.

Tim

Probably the check ball got stuck for some reason. There's another thread in this forum entitled Anatomy of a Lift Pump that tells you what you need to know and what you really don't want to know about lift pumps.

Before worrying about a lift pump problem I would verify my gauge was reading properly. The reason I said this is, I've seen too many electrical fuel gauges fail or give false readings. I perfer mechanical. The fact that the gauge read in excess of 20+psi on a single lift pump, and again you are seeing lower then norm readings at crusing IMO is an indication of a bad gauge. Get a mechanical, or make one up to verify before assuming the lift pump is bad.
Steve

As far as I know, there have been no reported failures of Dakota Digital Gauges or senders. Matter of fact, they have the best senders available. So that leads me to believe the stuck check ball theory. As long as it doesn't go below 8 at WOT, all is good.

Tim

It was not at startup, it was actually while driving. After a few WOT runs, it went back to normal. I checked it again this morning on the way to work and all was normal. Man, I love having gauges so I can monitor whats going on.

Tim

You might hook a temporary mechanical gauge up to double check you readings...That would rule that out!!!
