If you have an 02 the fluid is ATF plus 4 you can get it from Dodge it is a little high in price. You will need one gallon more fluid. It is sold by the gallon at Dodge.
They started to use it in the 02 and up trucks. It is a very good fluid.

If I remember correctly, Valvoline makes the ATF4 for DC. They will be coming out with it under Valvoline. Rumor is it will be in the spring.
Other than that, no.

Two things about the +4. It costs more and slips more!!
This brings more issues to the trans dealers which is money!!
I use dexron III with the pressures set correctly in the trans and have no issues.

Just wondering if the stock tranny can be adjusted to these pressures or does it take the new valve body?I'm at 178,000 and know the day is coming.

You have an 02 with 178,000 miles?
What do you do in your spare time!!!!
Yes the pressure can be raised and a resistor put in to keep it from setting a code. There are other tuning issues also. Too involved to go thru it here. Find a honest trans shop.

j-fox,thanks for the tip. I tow RV's and this really isn't all that many miles for 18 months, enough for me. Hate to know how many put on 1/2 again or more. I still have fun a lot doing this. A lot of people don't.

A lot of guys are using Amsoil and having good luck with it.
I am not a fan of long drain intervals, 15,000 miles is far enough. You will need to do the filter at that point because the dodge is a dirty trans. It can put more debris in the pan than most others.
Some guys will use a few quarts of mobil 1 sny. motor oil in the trans for lubing purposes.
My wifes Grand Cherokee has some in it and now has 75,000 miles on it. It does smooth the shift some.
Don't try this if you want to keep a warrantee!! Buy the Dodge stuff and keep the receipt.
Remember , these are good transmissions ,they just need to be calibrated correctly. The engineers at Dodge think we will compain if we feel it change gears so the soft shift it by design. This over heats it and glazes the clutch material.-thus the need for sny. trans fluid.

Re:what type of tranny fluid? and how much to add?
I agree with j-fox........I use Amsoil ATF in the tranny and change it at about 15,000 miles. For the reason he said, the filter still needs to be changed even if the fluid is still good. I now have 196,500 miles on the original tranny and everyone is while pulling a 40' GN with anywhere from 8000 lbs to 28,000 lbs behind the truck. As far as voiding the warranty......They tried it with me, but they can not void your warranty for the use of synthetic.
