What are the ranges for safe EGT?

I am a new diesel owner , the truck has a pyro gage .

I do very light towing with a landscape trailer once in a while ,the truck dosn't even notice its back there.





1998.5 24v 5spd 2500 4x4

1250* is the max upper limit. You can hold it there probably all day but I wouldn't suggest it. You can do quick (1/4 mile, 15 sec) runs up above that but DO NOT sustain temps over 1250* for any length of time. Now, that's assuming the probe is before the turbo. Pop the hood and check the exhaust manifold. If it has a wire coming out of it then the probe is pre turbo and that is where you want it. If not, check behind the turbo. If the probe is behind the turbo then take the above numbers and subtract 300-400* from them and those are the maxes that you can run.

First you need to establish where the probe is... is it pre or post turbo? It is generally accepted 1200 pre turbo is max for any duration.
