What is normal play for a front drive shaft
My truck is making a wa wa wa sound. it can be heard very slightly at about 5 mph then at 20 it becomes loud enough to hear without trying and at 40 it becomes louder and more rapid at about 60 it almost goes away.
If i put it in 4 wheel high the sound does not seem to be there.
I got under truck and tried to find something loose...
The front drive shaft ujoints look ok but maybe they are not. The rubber boot in the middle of the front drive shaft is there and not torn. If I get under the truck and try to move this back and forth what would normal play feel like? I can feel some movement...The sound that I get comes from the left front on a 4x4 dodge 2500 6 speed manual. No mods and not lifted.
I don't feel any bearing movement when i jack up the truck...When I apply brakes there is no change in noise.....When I make rapid right and left turns there is no change in the noise...The tires are new michelins and the old tires made the exact noise...
anyone have any ideas how much play would be normal on the front driveshaft?

First check to see that the brake backing plates arent rubing against the rotor if not then could be hub bearing on its way out, jack up front end and check for side to side play like a loose ball joint.if u do need new hubs, change the axle u joints while everything is apart. bad u joints click.wawawa sounds usually metal to metal contact.........
