Exclamation Well, I finally got the code!!

At 82,xxx miles my truck finally got the 0216 code. I haven't noticed any drivability problems, white smoke, dead peddle, or differance in fuel mileage. The lift pump has had a gauge on pretty much since i bought the truck 2 yrs ago. I changed the original LP because it started to drop pressure but the current LP is just fine with pressure. The truck is a 2002 with warranty on the engine still for another 18,000 miles, should i take it to dodge and have a new pump installed now or just wait till she dies completely? I would put the pump in myself but since it has warranty i'll let someone else have the headache. Since my LP is still good and fairly new, would dodge just put a VP44 in w/o putting in the intank pump? Thanks!

The pump is high $$$ over $1000.00(on the cheap), labor is about $100.00 per hour, time =3 hours per dealer specs, lift pump is $150- $250+ additional labor.

My advice is take it to Dodge and have them figure it out for $100.00 deductable.

Thanks for the quick reply Runamuk! Looks like I'll have some time next week to take it in to the dealer. Does dodge replace the lift pump everytime they do a IP job or does it just depend on how the LP is?

Dodge changed my VP about 3000 miels ago when I got the code and dead pedal. No questions asked they put the pump in, no deductable or anything it was ready in one day. I thought for sure they would put the in-tank pump in thinking it was the lift pump that caused the VP failure, but they said the lift pump was fine. Went right home put a gauge on it, 10psi idle 3psi WOT, well, the pump was bad, changed it out for a new,16psi idle 9WOT.

Dodgepower79, you should definitely look into the LP relocation kit or a FASS. No question that the stock fuel lines restrict fuel flow and lead to early LP failure, as well as forcing the LP to pull instead of push. And shame on your dealer for not having a clue, you very easily could have fried a brand new VP44.

Take it to the dealer.

My dealer claimed they replace them on the code and the code alone.

My truck was still running and driving fine, just had
"dead pedal" every once in a while. I wouldn't wait until it decided to leave you stranded on the side of the road.

It took me 2 trips to the dealer to get mine covered. The first time they sent me on my way with a in tank lift pump. When the code reappeared they replaced the vp. Also your warrentee starts at the "in service" date for the 5 years. Mine is up May 10 2007....

The dealer I've always taken this truck or my last truck to has always been good about service and getting the truck fixed right the first time. The build date for my truck is Dec os 2001 and the in-service date for mine is August of 2002 so i have a while before the warranty runs up, but getting my VP replaced will be on the top of my priority list. I just drove today for probably 30 miles and the truck acts fine. I started it up in the cold this morning and no white smoke or stumbling.

I have the same deal going on. P0216 P0236 and No problems from VP yet. Been like this for at least 15,000 miles, I keep resetting thinking it will go away, with no such luck. I have warranty until june, and I'm only at 61K on the clock, so I will be gettin a VP. I just have to get off my butt and change the RV's back to stock and take the EZ off. I've got my own aftermarket LP (holley Black) but DC should still have no reason to change it to in-tank because it flows great.

If you wait till the last day of warrenty, and they replace it then, and you pay no money (It's a nodeductable fix) you will have no warrenty on the new pump. That's what they told Dad his went out at 97k and he ask about the year warrenty on it and they said no just the remanner of the 5/100000 was all they can do

Well, I stopped by my local dealer and made an appointment to drop it off tomorrow after work. They said they'll be able to start on it first thing wednesday. I asked the service manager how long it will take and he said 3 or 4 hrs, but more than likely they'll have to order the pump for it. So I'll probably have my truck back thursday if they have to order the pump. Now I have another question, when it comes to warranty repairs, since i will be without a vehicle does dodge loan out a vehicle while mine is in the shop? I actually could use my sisters car but with where I work at her car would get hung up or bottom out on railroad tracks and potholes. Oh yeah, a Vulcan kit will be on its way to me very soon.

But if you pay for the repair, you get the 12mo/12,000mile warranty.
