water temp. sensor

hi there was wondering if anyone else had problemss with there temp gauge working fine one day and not working the next day i believe it is the sensor that is located on the thermo stat housing is that correct. also i dont believe its is the thermo stat because i have heat and trucks does not seem to run hot it always ran about 185 so if you gao any suggestions i would appreciate it thanks again

ect sensor or water temp sensor

can anybody tell me is there a difference between a ect (engine coolant temp.) and a water temp sensor on the 24 valve cummins can someone help !
