Warranty voided if using Mexican diesel fuel?
I seem to remember reading that the engine warranty on my '01Dodge Cummins would be voided if I drove across the Mexican border and used Pemex Diesel Fuel. Is this true? If so, why. I know that my truck was assembled in Mexico. What did they do for fuel to get it across the border? I would like to visit Baja again after not visiting since 1978. I have heard that Mexican Diesel has a higher ash content than U.S. fuel. What's up with all this?

What your truck was assembled in Mexico?
I thought they stopped assembling the CTD in Mexico in the late 90s?
My 98 was assembled in St. Louis, I thought all the Cummins equiped Rams were built in the St. Louis plant? I guess this is a little of your topic sorry

I just got out the orig. window sticker (I bought the rig new). It says assembled and port of entry into the U.S. from Saltillo, Mexico. Again, why the disclaimer about using Mexican fuel?

In the back of your owners manual there is a number for Customer Service to DC. You could call them and get the scoop. Actually I have never heard of the warrenty being voided for using mexican fuel but hey I live in the frozen north country.

I highly doubt the warranty would be voided with Mexican fuel, sounds like a tall tale to me.
Pemex is actually way better than US diesel. Most diesel in the US is 40 cetane, Pemex is 52, doubt if you'll find any diesel at all in the US with cetane that high. Pemex is low sulfur diesel right now, no need to worry about that, and will all be ultra low sulfur before the US is.
With Pemex I've always gotten 2-3 more mpgs, if I lived near the border I'd drive across just to fill up.
Some out of the way stations can have dirty tanks and you have be careful. When I travel in Mexico I carry a nylon bag type paint strainer in a glass jar, slip the strainer over the nozzle before filling up. Most times it's been clean but there were a couple times the strainer caught stuff I wouldn't want in my tank. Diesel fuel turnover at Pemex stations is quite high because all of the area farmers have no choice but to use it in their tractors.

Either way, how and why would a dealer check your fuel? Unless your VP44 goes out just as you cross the border back into the US and you get it towed to the dealer from there

Sure, but they drive them into the rail cars and arrive at the dealer with fuel. Unless the assembly plant trucks in US diesel, it looks like the first snort of fuel the Mexican trucks see is ... Mexican.
