Ok, here's a question that's a little off base. If the case is different on a 24 valve than a 12 valve why do we keep hearing that the reason there is a KDP issue with early 24 valves is that Cummins needed to use the old cases first before they would manufacture new cases?

What cummnz4x4pwr said is the reason Cummins gave me that there WASN'T a KDP issue with 24 valve engines ... I'm confused!

Sorry, you may now get back on topic!

The cases are indeed different, trust me if they were the same I would not have swapped it out

I laid them side by side and the hole for the vp is about 2 1/2 inches smaller in diameter than the 12v case for the p7100 and the studs were also about 3 inches closer on the vp cover

But that is a good Question

Just statin The facts

Jake, don't get me wrong, I wasn't questioning you. I sent an email to Cummins regarding the KDP issue before I bought my truck. Their reply was exactly what you stated earlier. They said the 12 valve case would not fit the 24 valve because the pump would not bolt up to it. They said they were aware of the KDP issue on the 12 valve, but stated there was no KDP issue on a 24 valve, as the cases were redesigned for that application, but I still hear people talk about this issue being related to a 24 valve. That is what is confusing me!

I know Geico266 removed his case to find there wasn't a problem. I would really like to find out, once and for all, if I have anything to be concerned about, but I doubt, after reading your post, that there is ... JMHO!

Sorry its been awhile,

Thanks for the Cam/ fuel filter/ case answers. Also thanks for the "what to do" post! Very nice!

Went mudding last night and half way through the "lake" ( ) the VP started acting up and nearly got stuck ....would have had to have a ford 4x4 4.6L pull me out lol. also pulled a 12v 5speed out...felt like shooting a member of my family haha. anyway!

what are you running for a fuel pump now, because it need a lot more psi than does the vp
- haha...well right now its sort of piesed together. At the time my L/P started getting a little weaker, I was a little low on cash, so orderd a 4600 carter and some 3/8 hose. Stock L/P is in stock location with the 4600 (8psi) near the tank and 3/8 hose to the filter. It puts out 20 at idle and can suck it down to 7 or so psi on a WOT run 5x5.
When I put the P7100 on I'd like the 12v pump rather than a FASS or some other electronic pump, Not too much room under there with the short bed. Also less electronics. =D.

Thanks alot guys! Appriciate the help!

Hey Guys, to bring this up again,
I have another question have any of you done the conversion without a 215 pump? I should be able to get ahold of a 190 p7100 but the 215's are hard to get ahold of. Anyone used one? Anything bad other than a little less starting h/p? Would it not match up as well as a 215 would with the 24v head/ect.?? Thanks

I would go with a 180 pump if I couldn't get a 215.... The 215 and 180 use the same cam, so if you are upgrading the pump later you already have the good camshaft in the pump.

Remember the p-pump delivers the fuel at a lower pressure (especially @ low rpm) good injectors will really help with idle and performance.

i did use a 215 pump and it worked great.

but its totally up to you the 180 pump will take you to about 650 at the wheels #2 only, but anything past that and youll need it upgraded

Alright. Well I'll keep shooting for a 215 but otherwise....
There is a 913 215 that I'm trying to get but it gets pricy fast! haha! Thanks,

Hey a couple more questions guys ,

Jake I know you said your cruise still works, how did you acomplish this? I've heard that you set up the old APPS to go on the P7100 or along side it?? I'm not sure how it would fit though. Thanks.

Also another question on the rocker assemblies, is there a special tool needed? I've never really checked them out so don't know TOO much regarding them. I have a Hanes manual and have been reading that regarding pulling the cam and all and think it will be fairly easy, just a long and kindof time consuming process. Thanks again everyone.

Another quick one,
Is there anything that needs to be done like stiffer valve springs if i install a 4gsk on the pump? The 24v's have the stiffer springs I know but are they enough? Thanks

stock should be enough unless you are going to get more than 4k out of it or go with a big cam

TNutcher, give us an update on the gear casing too. I'd really like to find out what the differences are between the two (12 versus 24 valve). Thanks in advance!
