VP-44 removal...

Checked the multi-plug on the VP44?
I've seen a few posters that THOUGHT they had it all the way connected and locked in place.
Also, if you had the batteries disconnected, you might have to reset the APPS.

When I drained my VP after a fuel filter change, it took a lot of cranking to fire. It would seem to catch around the 30-35 second mark of cranking. I'd let the starter cool, and then I would have to crank for another 30 seconds for it to get going again.

yes the APPS units are the same I have used one from a stick shift a few times, just need to change over the bracket as there isn't the hole for the trans kick down line

You back up and running yet? When priming mine, I had the three lines cracked, no fire. Buttoned them up, tried, but no fire. Finally just cracked one (I think #3), cranked and fired. Tightened them up and sat watching my FP gauge for 5 min. or so thinking what I would do if it all went FUBAR.

Still not running. Found that the heater grids are dead...bad relay. I think there is more electrical issues. Anyone know if there is a relay or something that allows the truck to run and where it is? The engine is coughing and spitting all sorts of white smoke...like it will start but its not catching. I keep thinking something electronic is not letting it run.
I checked and re-checked all the connections for all that we unplugged during the repairs. Batteries are strong, alternator is new. APPS is now replaced and calibrated etc etc. Cleared the old VP 44 codes and none have returned.
Owner agreed to try one puff of ether and the truck definately wanted to start...just will not catch. Leads me back to something stopping the engine from running.
This is frustrating.

You did keep the keys in the respective pumps, didn't you? I don't know how, but that times the pump, and each one has a unique number. The only VP I did had instructions to make sure you use the correct number key for the pump or the timing would be off.

New VP does not have fuel in it, loosen the feed line to VP FIRST , then bleed there by bumping starter, when you have a solid stream of fuel tighten it up, then try starting if still no go then loosen off injectors as you did above, should fire right up
