Turbo Whistle/Whine Louder Than Normal!

Ok, so cruzin' home yesterday from Cougar Buttes my Dodge started to whistle/whine. It was/is fairly intermittent, and doesn't seem speed related, but can be started/stopped by playing with throttle/boost pressure.

I thought that maybe my BHAF had come loose, but no such luck.

The noise was so loud, my friend driving behind me called me on his Cell to ask what was up/wrong!

After a quick inspection I saw nothing.

What do you guys think?

did you pull the hose and inspect the shaft for abnormal play?

also, check for a torn intercooler hose

If you have a kid like mine check to see if your silencer ring is still there. I spent weeks changing hose clamps and looking for leaks when mine started making all that noise, only to find out later that my little motor head kid pulled the ring out of it with out telling me.

That's sooooo funny That is something my youngest kid would do if he were here.
Check all your hoses and connections for leaks. check your exhaust back pressure too, If it is more than 2 or 3 psi while driving empty and moderate you could have a plugged Cat. The bhaf could account for an increase in whistle under a load.

FWIW, I saw this on on "another" turbocharged vehicle - the exhaust turbine wheel (inducer) got chipped somehow & the car would absolutely HOWL under boost/load... Maybe pull your downpipe & take a peek..... It could be time for an upgrade!!! good luck...

Converter on an '01? CA only right? Thought the 24V didn’t have to have them due to the central direct injection. I could be wrong.

Check the rubber boots on turbo air tube from turbo to tntercooler and from tntercooler to intake manifold. Boots like to pop out from under hose clamps. hard to find somtimes . little leak makes big noise .

Common loud leak spot is the lower inlet boot to the intercooler. On some rigs when the boot expands it rubs a sharp body seam. This can cut the boot in such a way that you can't see or hear the leak without higher boost.
