Truck surging while accelerating.

Truck surging while accelerating.
Could use some help.. I have 01 Ram 2500, auto trans, 2wd, 5.9 24valve . Truck has around 260k miles. I bought it new and its stock , no tuners ever run on it. No major problems or work done other than the transmission a couple years ago. The truck started surging during acceleration last year, a mechanic friend suggested resetting the TPS by disconnecting the batteries for a couple hours, then reconnect, turn key to on , slowly cycle accelerator pedal, turn key off, Then started and drove, the problem went away.
surging returned this year and even worse.. sometime power would cut out. Got a new WVE throttle position sensor from Rock Auto and installed . It helped , but still has surging while accelerating. Truck has neve shown a check engine light. Would appreciate any experience or suggestions you have .

What it your fuel pressure doing? Maybe time for a new lift pump.

couger thanks for advice.. I don’t have a fuel pressure gauge installed on the truck, but will probably try to get one. I changed my lift pump a couple years ago, i think this pump is like the 3rd one since truck was new.

My recommendation is to go with an aftermarket lift pump like FASS or Airdog mounted on the frame near tank with a sump pick up. It's a little more work but worth it in the long run. I have a FASS 95 adjustable and does everything I need it to do. The only mistake I made was using a draw straw instead of a sump pick up. It causes problems when the tank is low.

Hey, cool deal on being the original owner. Got my ‘01 in Feb 2000. It’s been a great truck. Has 385,000 on her.
The most important thing is a pressure gauge before the VP44. You can buy a $600 lift pump, but the result is the same if it does not work. Can damage the VP44.
You need to check to see if it threw any codes. Engine light not on does not mean there is not any codes.
There are a few things I had on mine that has caused your symptoms. I had a bad PCM once cause it, the TPS another and VP44 another time. Luckily never had to replace the ECM yet. So I would have it scanned for DTC’s before part changing.
Your truck will retrieve codes through the odometer, you can try that. Be cautious driving it without lift pump pressure, just because you hear it does not mean it’s pumping.
