Truck Died During Test Drive!!!!!!!

Well, went to the dealership today, checking out another 2001 24V with a 5speed in it(the six speed feels like I'm just rowing gears in a semi). Liked the truck I was buying they gave me a good offer on my truck $19,500. Blue book for my truck is about 18-18500 but they are pretty desperate for six speeds down here. We were test driving my truck for trade in right before we were going to start the paperwork and all of a sudden my truck just died, it was like dead pedal but it completely shutoff and would not restart. I had tools with me so I checked, getting fuel to the injection pump, not to the injectors. I pulled the codes and got p1693,p1688,p0351,and 0352. I know that p1688 pretty much means im screwed with the pump, but I have no idea what the others are. I searched the internet but I kept getting something for the coil ignition(DIESEL's dont have ignitions soooooo kind of confused). I don't really have the money to replace an injection pump right now so I think I might have to go for the ride this dealership might take me on. I left the truck there over night and their mechanics will be checking it out tomorrow to confirm its the injection pump. They said they are still very interested on getting this truck on trade in and will still give a good price even with the injection pump failure because of the rare six speed transmission in this area. If they will still give me 17-17500 for this truck I will probably go ahead and trade it in, kind of looking for opinions if I should take out a loan and fix this myself or just go ahead and trade in. Sorry for the long read, thanks in advance guys.

You can check the codes on:

Other than that I wish you luck. I have never changed a injection pump before. Again good luck and hope it turns out for ya.

I just found this link:
http://wiki.dieseltruckresource.com/wiki/VP-44_Replace

It seems to be a very good video on how to replace your VP. Good luck.

I would say that if you're going to trade it in anyways and they are still gonna give you a good deal, then just let them hassle with the inj. pump. You figure 17500 is only thousand below blue book and it'll cost you more than that in time and money to replace it yourself.

I replaced my IP about 2 months ago. The videos are invaluable for the newbie when doing this job. It took about 3-4 hours (I took lots of breaks because of the cooler temps). It was a piece of cake though. After priming it well, it turned over nicely. The pump was $1100 from www.mwfi.com. I had them express it to me. I will say that if your time is too valuable, take the dealer's offer. But don't let them talk you down too far. The pumps are not hard to replace if you follow the videos. It just takes time and a $1000 pump.
