Truck Cranks over several times before starting when hot
This is on a friends 2000 that is totally stock. I have searched this forum for similar problems and a few have come up but it seems most of the people that are having problems are ones with after market lift pumps that are supplying too much pressure during start up. My friends problem just started a couple of days ago out of the blue.
Is his VP going out? Please Help.
TIA
Eli

I was thinking someone was going to say that. Is there an easy way to hook up a manual guage to the VP for a quick test or even permanently? I'm a 3rd gen guy that know very little about 2nd gen fuel systems. I have one rigged up on mine that reads the pressure at the fuel filter housing. Can I do something similar with his?

My truck cranked for about 3 sec before starting. Did this for about a year. Never got any codes and ran fine once started. Mine did it hot or cold.
Never I.D.ed the problem but it stopped when I did change the VP-44. Always suspected return fuel line somehow draining the VP-44 pump dry??
Could briefly hear fluid running somewhere after a shut down.
I believe the 2000's have a extra fitting on top of the Fuel Filter canister (changed in 01 I believe), where many hook up their FP gauge.
Found a pic from 'Shovelheads' 99.........

If it doesn't have the ports on top of the fuel filter canister, you still have a schrader valve at the VP44. I've got a manual fuel pressure gauge that attaches to the schrader valve for a quick check of fuel pressure. I've used it to check pressure on friend's trucks that didn't have gauge set-ups.

Either port works. One is pre-filter, the other is post-filter.
I picked up my manual gauge set-up a few years back, but don't remember where. You're welcome to borrow it if needed. Just have to make sure that the truck you're testing has the schrader valve on the VP44 inlet. I had two schraders that would screw into the ports on the FF canister, but they have both found their way out of my toolbox into parts unknown.
