Trouble with Fuel Pump and Turbo

I have a 2000 3500 diesel. I am having trouble with my turbo and fuel pump. The turbo only works about 10% of the time. It will go for about 30 sec and then die for about 5-10 min and then start up again for about another 30 sec. Is this normal for this truck or is this a problem I can fix without buying a new one?

And the fuel pump does not pump at 100% all the time. It works most of the time, but I can feel it when going up a hill that it is weak. Is this something I just need to replace, or is their a way to repair it?

Do you monitor your fuel pressure with a gauge? have you checked your truck for codes? IMO, you need a constant 10 PSI for cooling and lube of your VP44

Check yer lift pump fuel pressure.
I was advised by some outstanding fellas on this diesel site to check the lift pump fuel pressure when looking at a 98.5'-'02 Dodge w/Cummins.
In order to check the lift pump fuel pressure, you'll need a Fuel Pressure Check kit available at most auto parts stores.
The one for GM vehicles work just fine on mine, it uses the same plumbing connector.

Screw the connector on the fitting of the injector pump on the driver's side of the engine.
Turn the keyswitch just enough to "bump" the starter to get The Free 25 Second Lift Pump Run.

Stock spec is 10psi+, most folks look for 15psi.
