transmission slip

Hi folks,
2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel, Auto Tranny, no mods.
I do not tow, vehicle was purchased used at 95,000 and now has 120,000.
I noticed some tranny slipping when going around corners initially. I then went on vacation and truck set for two weeks, when started, it would not move for 3 or 4 minutes. I figured this was the torque converter filling up. Now the truck is slipping on a regular basis until warm, then it seems to be ok. I checked fluid level and that is ok according to how the manual says it should be checked. The tranny has not been serviced since I have had it. Any insight you can give would be appreciated.
Thanks...gary

Get a service. It could be a servo or need a band adjustment.

Slipping when going around corners may be a filter that is plugging up. The slow fill when cold is a worn pump bushing. Start it and put it in neutral for 30-45 seconds. BTW, you can get a valve body that is modifies to fill the converter in park.
A trans shop that is into racing Dodges may be able to help you.
I prefer these people. DTT

You claim its full but it sure has the symptoms of low fluid level.

Another drawback to buying used, whaich is what I did so i'm not bashing you, but you don't know waht was done before you got it. Mine was used to pull a 5th wheel trailer so i figured I'd have to doa tranny way before I did.

You might drop the pan, do a complete fluid / filter swap, and adjust the bands while you are at it.....I agree with Nitrousn, it sounds like low fluid level (slipping, taking a while to engage);

Do you have a Haynes or shop manual? If not, there's are links on this website to these instructions.

OK I screwed up

I too thought it had all the symptoms of a low fluid level, but when I checked it, the level looked fine. The problem was that I was checking it in park, after I noticed the note in the owners manual said "Neutral" I found I was low 2 quarts.
I also found a leak in the oil pan gasket.
Thanks to all who replied.
