Transmission Question
I have a 2002 Ram 2500 Quad Cab SWB. with Auto Trans. I bought this truck new and it has 66,000 mi on it. It has always performed flawlessly. Yesterday I hopped in it to go home from a long weekend and she wants to start out in second gear no first!.While stopped if I manually move the gearshift selector into low then it will start out in low, but if you put it in drive it starts in second. What is wrong? The truck is still under warranty and has had no modifications whatsoever I just wanted to ask for your advice so I know if my dealer is shootin straight with me. Thanks

Sounds like a "no brainer". If you can't trust your dealer run it by another dealer and see if you get the same response. Could be minor. Whatever it is, if you're not happy with it after it's repaired, take it back and tell them. They can also log it so if it happens again after warranty expires, you're still covered.

Your pressure is out of spec or the transducer/sensor tells the computer it is.
Have them drop the pan and change both out. Gov pressure transducer and sensor.
Doesn't make sense to only do one.

Common problem with pressure sensor on 02 Automatics. Dealer will (should) have seen it before and know what to do. Not a reoccuring problem, once fixed!

I just had the exact same problem on my 01.5 so I dropped the pan changed the governor pressure sensor and the governor seonoid switch just as j-fox suggested. I went to the dealer and bought oem parts. I paid about $120.00 for the parts . also while she's down go ahead and change the filter and do the band adjustments ( look in tech facts section and your service manual to get the adjustment right) This whole process took me about 2 hours to do and now my tranny runs like new. expect to get a little trans fluid on you and the floor but now worry as it cleans up pretty easy. Good luck
