Transmission Not Shifting

Transmission Not Shifting
Really starting to second guess picking up one of these trucks after all the problems my girlfriend is going through. Just had a new VP and LP put in a week ago and now driving home the truck wouldn't shift out of 1st. Would hit 20 MPH and wouldn't go anywhere. Is this a sign of a dying transmission or is it a sensor? I checked the fluid and it's fine. Someone suggested the Vehicle speed sensor I believe. Help please! Thank you.

If it's sensor related, there should be a code.
Try the key on/off/on/off/on trick and see what shows up in the odometer.
Sometimes tranny codes don't show up that way, in that case you'd need to have it scanned.
If I remember right, it's a 2001?
Just checked, and she has a 1999, so the key trick won't work, you'll need to have it scanned.

It's most probably your speed sensor. I had mine go out about 6 months ago, wouldn't shift out of first, nor second nor third but you could manually shift it just fine.
This is what happened when I was testing the transmission in each gear - power breaking it.. LOL

Yup it was the speed sensor, just got done replacing it and took it for a ride and it runs great. Dodge wanted 170 dollars to replace it when it's a 20 dollar part and 10 min. of labor *sigh*. Installing gauges and a FASS system soon on her truck so hopefully can avoid anymore tranny or fuel issues.
