Transmission leak that I can't find
About 3 weeks ago, trans felt like it was 'slipping' when going around left hand turns. It also was 'down shifting' while going downhill (no power applied) and at times it would go into a 'false neutral' when in drive but stopped at a stop sign. The fluid level was low which I brought up to the correct level and now it seems to be leaking from somewhere...hence the fresh fluid all over my driveway. It does purge a lot of fluid lately. I crawled under and inspected the cooler lines and connections into the tranny - nothing found. Most of the 'mess' is on the rear portion of the trans case and transfer case. ANY ideas on where else I might look or what could be leaking?

144K you should be about due for your second transmission output shaft seal. All you have to do is remove the transfer case to access it. There is a "weep" hole that allows fluid to leak so you know when it's bad. It's visible on the bottom where the trans and transfer case splits.

Well it turned out to be that the rear seal was trashed. Replaced by dealer (no choice - time being an issue) and seemed to be fine. Still had slow leak but couldn't find where. Read a bunch of suggestions and I found it on the cooling lines under the vibe support - the dirt and grit got into the plastic holder and 'wore' a hole in the lilne. Did a quick fix using rubber tube and hose clamp and presto! No more leak! THANKS to all of you who post stuff like that on here!!
