Transmission Fluid Change?
Ok quick question...
What is the interval of changing the transmission fluid on a 5 speed?
60K, 100K, ???
Well at 62K on the clock I broke down and changed it anyways...It will cost you about $15 bucks a quart for the Mopar Synthetic 75W-85 Gear lube. Fairly easy job. Pull the bolt out of the bottom of the PTO plate and let it drain. To reload I got a piece of tubing about 5 foot and stuck on to a funnel. Then routed it down the the engine on the turbo side and reload the transmission with 3.5 Quarts. What was a shock I drained the old lube into a gallon jug and was shocked to see it that dark! But there was no metal in the oil... NONE!
What I poured back in was very clear in color! Just about as clear as water....

When I first changed the fluid in my 5 speed, I removed both PTO covers and cleaned the inside bottom of the transmission with a lint-free rag.
There weren't any big particles in there, but it was dirty.
I bought the truck with 56K on it, now have 130K, and I've changed the trans lube 4 times. The service manual I have says to change the lube every 24K miles or 24 months. It also recommends to raise the back of the truck(I usually park it on an incline, with the back higer than the front) to completely drain all of the lube. Capacity is listed as 4 quarts, and that's what I can get in mine.
Good deal on the Mopar branded Castol Syntorq LT.
I've heard of people paying up to $28 a quart for the stuff from a dealer.

I was told at my dealer in Ontario OR that the 5 speeds in the 2002 edition are good up to 100K miles between changes! I'm starting to wonder even on 60K is a bit long between changes.
Looking back though my logs I started making entry about a darken of color at about 50K miles.
Is there anyone else that can tell me the Fluid change interval on the 2002 NV4500 trans?
