Transmission band adjustment

My 1998 24 valve stock 2500 has 75000 miles towing a 5th wheel. I found the tech article on transmission band adjusting and was wondering if many have made this adjstment and if it could be accompished by the average Joe?
If you have made the adjustment, was the artile correct step by step? Will it help to make this adjustment or is it some thing that does not need to be done. Again thank every one for their help.

The article that I used is top Notch.
Auto Trans Adjustment Directions/Specs

Just remember all torque specs are in INCH POUNDS not foot pounds.
So invest in a good inch pound torque wrench before you start.

this topic will usually bring arguments that IF this adjustment is necessary or not. If the band is in adjustment, short of major trans failure, it will stay in proper adjustment. What I usually find is that often they can be on the loose side from the factory, or just plain mis-adjusted for some reason. A couple times a year (more sometimes) I'll see trucks come in with the complaint that "you have to let off the go pedal before it will make the 1-2 shift". With this I usually end up dropping the pan, valve body and find the kickdown band adjuster laying on top of the valve body. It's funny they will shift ok that loose until they just "fall apart". What I usually suggest is to drop the pan on the first service, clean the pan, r/r filter and adjust the bands at that time.

I adjust my trucks bands about every 30k
.....I check the racecars bands about every 30 passes.
