Tranny won't stay shifted in OD? HELP

Hey All!

When crusing on flat road with steady accelerator, at about 55 mph the shift from 4th to OD I think won't grab and stay...it kicks in and out.

Any ideas?

Could a TCC be the problem?

Also I checked the Throttle Control Valve linkage and it is perfectly adjusted.

Maybe tranny filter?

Help...

1999 cummins 4x4 dually, auto tranny

ps..just read might be Lockup/OD sensor. Also read where others are adding a wire from APPS to PCM.

Thanks,
Andy

Do a search on electrical noise spikes. Clean the battery terminals. If it helps call DTT for a noise filter.

I just went through the same issue. I replaced the APPS on my 00' and the problem was still around. A $5.00 piece of shielded cable jumpered in between the APPS and the PCM cured the problem. It took a couple of hours but it was not difficult. My truck felt better than it ever did when I was done. Do a search on "APPS" and you will find the instruction sheet. Good luck!!!

I took to tranny shop and they indicate that the problem is inside the transmission. Not sure what exactly it could be since they haven't tore down yet. Hoping the fix isn't to outrageous. I guess we will see.
