Tranny tail piece (OD case?) rear seal
for 10 yrs I had no leaks in my transmission, then it died and I had to have it rebuilt. I expected it to go because I know the Cummins has too much torque for the stock 47RE.
Now 5 yrs after going to a national chain transmission shop that doesn't start with two As, the rear seal is dripping transmission fluid all over my driveway. Seals aren't covered by their garauntee so I do it myself. No biggy, it's got to be the easiest one to replace. BUT I can't find a definitive source. When I look up seals, tranmission rear seals, OD rear seal etc I get like 15 choices. All look different and none have an exploded view to see if I'm getting the wrong one. To make it worse they range from 6 bucks to 31.
Does anyone know what it is called and maybe a part number?
I have a 99 2wd and the tranny is the stock case and stock driveshaft.
Thanks

My 2001 leaked straight from the factory the drive shaft must have sat on a metal rack that scratched it ever so slightly, enough to damage the seal, so check your drive shaft when replacing the seal, could have been done at the trans shop.

Thanks Pat
Ordering it today.
You can see my confusion though "SKF Part # 16567 Grease Seal (Only 4 Remaining)"
I saw those parts and the grease seal name made me think I was looking at the wrong one.

I switched it out today.
I don't know if the tranny place used a cheap one or the design was changed but my part looked different than the new one. The new one looks improved, there is a second seal to keep out water and stop rust from making the yoke rough and eating the seal (what happened to mine)
The old one is on the left and the new part # is National /Moog 7300S
