Tranny cooler line leak...

I have developed a leak at one of the rubber lines connecting the hard trans fluid line to the trans cooler. (see pic)

The dealer wants 100 bucks for the hose. Plus I need to buy the special tool to get the disconnect off.

Anyone replaced these before? Any other reason it would be leaking there other than a bad hose? Any reason I can't just use off the shelf hose and a hose clamp in that location, it used a hose clamp on the cooler end of the hose?

Just exploring the options before I go dump 100 bucks on a 12 inch hose...

Any help would be appreciated..

I had one blow on the 97, talked the my trans guy and he told me to cut the end of the hard line off and put a compression fitting with a brass barb end on it to fit the rubber line. Just cut the medal end off of the rubber line. He said they are nothing but a problem for them. It worked for me. Good luck

If the fluid is leaking right out of the end of the connector most of the time I find the hard line is cracked where it has been "crimped" to make the lip that "clicks" into the quick connect fitting. I've seen many times where people have cut the end of the line, flared it and then cut the quick connect off, or replace that section of rubber line, and use hose clamps.

Turns out the hard line is cracked, righ on the "crimped" part. that also buggered up the oring in the soft line. So I'll need to pick up a hard line as well.

Also is this the same hard line people replace with an earlier year to get the test port???(edit. nope...searched a little...not the same line...)

Nope, not the same line. You could still cut the end off the metal one, flare it, remove the "quick connect" from the rubber line and just use a hose clamp and all would be fine. Been there....done that for customers.
