Trannie troubles
Hey guys,
Well I just got my trannie serviced by the local Dodge dealer and now the transmission seems to be slipping in high gears. They changed the oil filter and adjusted the bands. This is what it does. If ya accelerate nice and easy it seems ok but if ya accelerate a little faster it slips a bit but if ya hammer the thing it's fine. No slip. Now say your accelerating then ya let off the peddle the rpms will jump up about 2-300 rpms. I don't know if there's a real problem or it's just out of adjustment. I'm leaving for Florida this Sat. morning and I don't want any trouble with the truck. I'm installing a Concrete Block plant and I need to bring about 2000 lbs of tools with me. I'll be calling the dealer in the morning but I wanted to get your input. ( The real experts)
Thanks guys!

I talked to the service manager and he said that Chrysler only recommends atf 4 for all their automatics. Well I told him that I would like to change the fluid back to aft 3 so he said that he would do it as soon as I brought the truck up. So what do you guys think is this going to help???

You are better off with the +4 over the +3 trans fluid. It has been updated with better lube and service qualities than the +3, and it is compatible with the +3. Have your dealership recheck the fluid level(make sure it is checked in Neutral),recheck band adj. and T/V cable.

TGCTD Have daily experiance with +3,+4 trans fluid, 42,44,46,47,RH's and 42,44,46,47,48 RE's thank you very much!
Then you surely know that +4 has more slip agent in it!
I think the bands are adjusted wrong! Wrong fluid wouldn't show up that quick.

I would agree with the band adjustment being a problem. to my knowledge +4 and +3 have the same coefficient of friction qualities. They added in abilities to take more heat with the +4,without breakdown. Now i know that +3 is cheaper than +4 and works well,is not going to cause a readily noticeable problem like topper has.

sorry tgctd but your wrong. +4 has increased frition modifiers which is causing the problem. the reason for these modifiers is to provide u with a smooth shift as the band locks.too much of the modifier u will get slippage.
IS +4 better, yes, but not the correct fluid for every application.I would NEVER use it in my 99 just because dc says its ok too.
Why would u pay $8.00/qt for it anyway ?
valvoline atf+3 is $1.75/qt autobarn.
I dont want a war over this and this will be my last post on this subject....thank you
