Tq convert, Shift kit and Valve body?
I have a 98.5 truck and want to get it in the 14's but i need a tranny that will last and still tow 6-8k usealy 13-18hr straight in hilly areas, right now the stock tranny seems to be doing this no problem but with more hp who knows. My plans are: BHAF,4"exhaust, 275injector, and a comp of some sort. My question is which parts should i buy to make the Auto reliable?
Thanks

bv12,
You can read countless threads on opinions of upgrading the 47RE auto. You should contact the various tranny builders and tell them what you want to do with the truck (type of use) and then make the decision after doing the research. I'm getting ready to upgrade the torque converter, valve body, and other internals in my 99 for doing much the same as you. Towing and Playing! My stock trans with 76K miles, a dozen dragstrip days, and a few dybo runs, has started to slip with just the addition of an EZ. My understanding is that the stock set-up is just to mushy with low line pressures and a TC that is made to slip in order to absorb a bunch of torque that the diesel puts out.

Hello BV12 and welcome to the site.
It would be a good idea to fill in the Signature part of your profile with the info about your truck. That way people who know the truck will be able to help and you won’t have to type it in every time.
The first thing when bombing the truck I would suggest installing gauges. There is a lot of info on this site about why.
RATTLINRAM is right about the tranny. I just updated mine in Jan and it was the best money spent so far on the truck. The lower stall speed torque converters and earlier shifting valve bodies will bring the shifts down into the torque curve. This really helps when towing.
Here are a few links to the top 4 tranny places, they sell full trannys as well as upgrade kits. They all specialize in diesel truck trannys. Once you decide just enter the name in the search feature above for this site and you will be able to find what people have to say about them, or PM the people that have your tranny choice in their signature and I’m sure they will be willing to give you more info.
Good Luck.

That would depend on the condition of the existing clutches bands and seals. How many miles? If you are going to do it yourself I would at least do an Extreme Duty rebuild Kit (http://www.suncoastconverters.com/dodge/ext_upgrade.htm), Triple Disk torque converter (http://www.suncoastconverters.com/dodge/converters.htm), and valve body (http://www.suncoastconverters.com/dodge/valve_body.htm ). I wouldn’t do any of this until I talked to one of the guys at the company I choose. If you go with Suncoast ask for Joe (1-800-868-0053) and tell him what you want to do. If you go with one of the others then I would look on their sites and see who to call and talk with them first. But before you do any of these you will need gauges. You might want to look at a 4” exhaust turbo back and a better air filter also. You can also PM the guy who started this thread he just did a tranny upgrade and Edge Comp. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...threadid=41682
