TC Unlocks at Random? Time to look at a gettin a new Tranny?
First off, last week I pulled a 305 Cat over way too long and steep of a mountain, got the trans way too hot (no temp gauge but the dummy light was on for a long time) and I think I had ought to be looking at new transmissions. I run it with a BD torque converter lockup kit to help my Pacbrake. Problem was that I had to be in 4wd Low to stay slow enough going down grade to not have a runaway, not letting the TC lockup and creating a ****ton of heat. Now the transmission will unlock out of lockup going down the road and will rev way up, and sometimes downshift to 3rd gear. Is it some random electrical problem that just so happened to arise after I kicked my poor stock transmission right in the nuts? Or should I be looking at a new, upgraded trans?

I would get transmission serviced at a reliable shop. Fluid, filter changed bands adjusted. Look in bottom of pan for any pieces that broke. Pan should be clean with nothing in it. Get a temp. gauge installed.
If your tranny and TC is toast, there is lots of information here on trannsmisions.

Okay so I found one of the stock cooler lines had rubbed a hole in it's self after rattling around for 247k miles and let the fluid get low, **** it, so I had about 200 miles of running the tranny low on fluid. BOTH new lines are in bound and will get her filled up and topped off. Think I'll add a bottle of Lucas tranny helper for good measure. Accepting thoughts and prayers to the Dodge Gods that I got lucky on this one...

''Grommets''
Also, when explaining what had happened to the dealer when ordering my lines, he told me that the plastic clips that hold the lines apart are called ''grommets''. Funny from what I always knew grommets were to keep stuff from rubbing, not rub holes into freakin steel line!

did you notice the transmission slipping & losing any forward movement or jerking into gear....if not then you probably didn't run it too low....i recently ran mine low too, but everything seems to be ok after flushing fluid & getting it back to the right level....
