Re:Tc lock up switch

98, mine likes to lock up a lot at low speeds(1200rpm) and I'll mash it hard enough to pull hard, but not enough to kick it out of lock up and it has never once slipped on me. Even with the comp on 2x5. Probably shouldn't push my luck though.

I've got the stock TC also. :'(

Re:Tc lock up switch

Old Iron, the 96-98 47RE trannys also required removing tranny relay from fuse box (under hood, driver's side, by wheel) and installing a short jumper wire, about 1 inch. Check and see if this will be required with the 24 valve setup.

You will need to be going fast enough to be in 2nd gear before tc lockup clutches will engage. Tranny will up-shift to 3rd and 4th if the o/d is not disengaged. The lockup switch will have to be turned off for tranny to down shift. Failing to turn it off before coming to a stop will stall the engine.

I drive around with my OD off until I hit about 60mph.

Do yall know if bumping line pressure up a bit (one or two turns) would void the warranty? Could they tell it has been altered?

Re:Tc lock up switch

The shifts take longer? Why? I only planned on doing something like 1 turn or so. I know anything over I think 2 1/2 will set a code off and send you into limp mode. I'm thinking that if I do that, I may also lower my shift points. The reason I want to lower the shift points is cause I start defueling at around 2700 and I shift at 3200. By 3000, I've quit pulling. If I lower the point to say 3000, then right as I quit pulling, it shifts and I start pulling again. Instead of just revving the engine all the way to redline and not going anywhere.

Re:Tc lock up switch

my best guess on the shifts taking longer would be the higher pressures building up before shifting ??? 1turn=3psi so that's not a lot. i turned mine up 3 turns. Bill K says to no do the pressures on the 24v without a guage, but you may be ok.

now, remember, there's 2 screws to adjust. there's one for the pressure, and then there's another one for light throttle shifts. under WOT, there's nothing different at all, but under light throttle, you definately notice the difference. i turned that screw 1 1/2 to 2 turns to get later shifting under light throttle, and i'm happier with it! 1 turn= 75rpm later shift under light throttle.

Gonzo says that his truck shifts better with the Transgo shift kit- and earlier under hard throttle.

good luck,
Tom

Re:Tc lock up switch

I'd get the Trans Go if I could, but then my parents come into play cause of the warranty. That's why I was curious if bumping the pressure up would void the warranty (probably would) and if they could detect it. I just want a little more piece of mind.

Re:Tc lock up switch

you can only get a way with so little pressure without a pressure guage that they dealer would probably never know. but with so little pressure anyways, is it really worth it to do it. you aren't slipping your bands or converter lock up clutch are you?

Re:Tc lock up switch

Not at all. I just want a little more pressure on there so I dont' have to worry as much bout it starting to slip.
