in-tank lift pump ?s

went to the dealer to have my injection pump changed, my lift pump was at 15lbs/idle and was starting to drop to around 5lbs/wot. they did tests and said the LP was bad, when i got in the truck had 10lbs and it was noisy. so they ordered one and changed it today. now i have 8lbs/idle and drop down around 2 1/2 at WOT is this normal for this NEW pump??? what pressures should it run at?

I am in the same boat. I am on my second intank lift pump and second VP-44. With the intank pumps I see 9psi at start up idle, 5-6 at 70 mph, and 3-4 with my foot in it. I too would like to know if this is normal? More than likely it is bogus as my first intank lift pump lasted 3000 miles. Only mod was an Edge EZ, which is currently gone.

That seems to be the consensus with the in-tankers. Some people are going to pop in and say their dealer told them volume rules. I have yet to hear of an intank retro that ran over 10 psi. I would have avoided one as much as possible when I was still covered. I got my new IP and LP at 68K, (in June) before they had purged all the regular LP's out of the system. Has anyone put a frame rail mouted Carter in-line with the intank??

Upersleder, I installed that sub last week. Only took me 9 months to get around to it.

Good Luck.

I've got the in-tank pump + engine mounted carter pump both running together.....my FP guage is pegged at 16 psi even at WOT. This summer I plan on getting rid of the in-tank pump and running something else...that way when the pump goes bad I dont have to drop the fuel tank to change the pump.

Yeah, I know how it is.

Probably the best solution would have been getting a FASS, FASS 2 or another regular stock lift pump. I still cant believe this is the best fix the DC engineers can come up with.

You guys should consider using a Walbro gsl392 pump. Guys on this site and others are installing them with success. They are powerful, reliable and inexpensive. Easy to install. Best mod I've made to date.
btw- I have no monetary interest in Walbro, just wanted to fill you in...

Yup, good info and worth investigating. There is a LOT of info here to wade through.

Could you give us quick rundown on install and pump details??

My install is on a third gen, but I think there are only minor differences in setup of this fuel pump mod. There should be a ton of info if you do a search on 2nd and 3rd gen forums. Unless it's somehow missing. PM me for more details, maybe I can help you locate the threads.

I've got a little time, so here goes.

There are a number of places to get the walbro pump. I bought mine on Ebay for $118 shipped to my door in less than 24hrs. These pumps are very popular with the Turbo Buick guys and imports. Also Mustang and Camaro, etc.
You'll need some tapped banjo fittings from Geno's or you may be able to make them yourself, if you dare.
You'll probably want a wiring relay setup from Painless (Summitracing) or you could scrounge up the parts at an autoparts store.
Some fuel line and barbed fittings (sizing dependant on situation)
Most guys could fab this up in 4-6hours, spending less than $200. Some are more, depending on accessories (wanted, not needed)

They ran mine to the battery. I re-did alot of their crapsmanship.

Why move it to the fuse block?
