Tach RPM drops to 0 + Check Engine Light
Cuzin down the highway @ 60 MPH all is well..........
Tachometer drops to zero (0) and engine has no power. Pull over, turn off, restart, runs for 20 sec. RPM back down to zero (0) then dies. Code P 1693
Wondering where RPM sensor is located and would imagine this has an impact on the ECM and how it monitors the fuel.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.....stuck @ home in the garage.
Help..........

Camshaft Position Sensor, under the VP44. About a $50 part, need small hands to change with IP on, very easy to do with it off. I think it would cause your problems.

Depends on the year.....what year is your truck? 98.5 - 00 have a CKP which will cause the exact symptoms you described. The 1693 is the companion code that only tells you that there is another code present that you didn't or can't retrieve. A scanner will most likely pull an additional P0336 DTC for the CKP. From the sounds of it, I'm guessing you have a 2000 truck since you can read codes in the OD display and you have a CKP?

Big difference in R&R time. Cam/Crank sensor. Based on the feedback from all of you, it sounds like the Camshaft sensor?
