Suspension question

How thick are the blocks between the top of the rear axle and the bottom of the springs on a 2wd 3500 compared to a 4x4 3500, and if they are lower on a 2wd, can they be put on a 4wd to better fit under a gooseneck cattle trailer? Will the driveshaft be too long if the truck is lowered in the rear about an inch or so? Have any others done this and what problems are encountered other than tire and headlight realignment? Thanks
The truck is a 98.5 3500 4x4 quad cab

Not sure about the thickness of the blocks, but I know for sure that if you somehow lower the truck down a bit (much like a heavy load in the bed) it won't hurt your truck. No problems associated with the driveline. I have a 12' Fleetwood Caribou side entry camper (4200 lbs) and it "squats" my truck well down onto the overload springs and almost botoms out my 3500. Before I installed the Firestone Ride-rite airbags, I drove around with this heavy camper on the truck all the time (almost bottomed out) without any problmes. The sliding capabilities in the yoke take care of any length issues.

Somebody else will have to chime in on the thickness...

I understand the issues that you are having with the height of your bed, they are TALL! I have a heck of a time jacking my camper WAY up in the air to load it, that's what you get for owning one heck of a tough 4x4!
