Surging
My engine has started surging very so slightly. Not enough to really affect the tach, but I can hear it. I thought my ears where playing tricks on me but have listened several times over the last 3-4 days. With 99,500 miles I hope it isn't the injector pump. I was thinking maybe the Crank position sensor. Fuel pressures are good. Can't sense a change in power. Anyone have any ideas?

Re:Surging
I was having a slight surging in my truck up until last weekend when it suddenly stopped! The problem is that it stopped when I put my new lift pump in!! $165.00 and all is well and I have a little extra power now too.... What are your pressures? When is the last time you replaced your fuel filter?
Good luck..
Good luck..

Re:Surging
Mine has been surging for awhile now. You can feel it at a certain strain of the motor. Not to the floor but just enough to climb a slight grade or something. It's even worse when your towing. It will go away when your floor it. It's just at a certain strain on the motor and you ever so lightly press the pedal. There are all kinds of cures, but it just depends on whats wrong. In other words I haven't figured mine out yet. I have kinda learned to live with it. :'(<br><br>Kimrey

Re:Surging
My truck is greatly affected by temperature. On the 40's days it has less power, less economy, and sounds a little less than great. Let it warm up to high 60's and it all changes. Same fuel, etc. Cold I get that idle miss and warm out I do not. Probably have a bad sensor somewhere, but I am too busy to fool with it right now.

Re:Surging
Just to clarify mine is when the truck is at an idel. Also I can detect it in the tach(I said I couldn't in my first post). It also comes and goes. Most of the day yesterday it ran smooth, then during the afternoon it started again. According to the tach there is about a 75 to 100 rpm change when it is surging. ??? There is no surging when driving or pulling.

Re:Surging
My truck was surging at idle as well, i checked fuel pressure i had 10 at idle, 6 cruising, 4 WOT......a fuel filter and fuel pump cured my problem.... I talked to one of the mechanics for Cummins and he said that i was to make sure my throttle linkage wasn't haning up, as this would cause it to surge at idle if it didn't return all the way. There is a recall on throttle linkage on some models.

Re:Surging
This has gotten worse over the weekend. while running down the highway plenty of power everything runs good. Stopped for a light and the engine starts surging about a 200 rpm change. I ideled the truck up and it goes away, let of the accelerator it comes back. It will not do it under a load, ideling in 2nd gear. Fuel pressure are still good. Could it be my Crank Position Sensor?
