sure sign bands need adjusting?!

i was just curious. what exactly is a sure sign that i have to adjust my bands in the tranny. i didn't know for sure of what the symptoms would be so if anyone could let me know i'd appreciate it.

Slippage in 2nd or reverse.
No band is used for anyother gear.
