suncoast transmissions
if you were going to upgrade to a suncoast tc and vb, would you just buy the transmission or build your own up? what additional benefits do you get from their tranny? would the intall of the entire tranny be cheaper than tearing it apart and having the tc and vb installed? not a mechanic and would need to have it done.

Well, I'm going to pretty much say what most people think on here. If you have the knowledge of building a tranny or know someone who does, then more power to you. But buying from an experienced tranny builder who specifically has your Cummins engine in mind is something else.

Just a vb & TC install is ok if the trans has low miles and hasn't been abused. I won't be cheaper if you put a vb & TC in and then have to tear it down again shortly after for a complete rebuild. The VB & TC will have to be atleast torn down and cleaned before re-install.

I have been wondering this too. My 2001 has 140k on it and I expect the tranny to go in the not too distant future. I'm looking at 3 options. Rebuild the current tranny, buy a built tranny, or NV4500 swap.
Which of these is the most cost effective way to go for someone who doesn't make tons of money to throw away?
