Strange clicking noise under truck

I have been hearing this strange clicking sound while I am going slow. Like moving around while parking or slow movements like that. Foward or reverse. It seems like its coming from around the springs/axle/brakes. Its a higher pitched ticking/clicking sound and it very erratic, not like a constant tick, tick, tick. So I have a hard time making it do it to track it down.

I had a clicking sound like you are describing, with my 01. since new. I thought it might be a loose hubcap or something like that. after about three years, I finally tracked it down to the front axle breather hose cap, clicking back and forth against the inner front fender. talk about drive someone nuts. Thing is, I knew it wasn't driveline related after i changed to the 058s with the 285 bfgs. So, as time went by, I kept looking.
I am not saying this is your problem, but just a pointer.

I just crawled around under there for a while. bumping, yanking, and twisting. The only thing that could be changed in the future is the tail shaft seal. It leaks a little. Other than that everything looks and feel great. I have to say it almost sounds like its coming from inside the differential or maybe the brake drums. Maybe its suspension?

Sounds like u-joints to me, pretty common, once the needle bearings start to go they make funny little noises like that. You notice it the most when idling around parkingt lots and other vehicles with the windows down, seems to reflect the noise back at you.

The only reason I dont think its u-joints is because I just, not 5000 miles ago, had the pinion u-joint go bad and I heard its tell tale noises. So I pulled the driveshaft and had both of them replaced at the same time. And now they feel tight as a tick. Guess I just wait for it to start making a whole lot a noise or break before I find out what it is.

Mine made a click when first starting to go forward and then a click when first going in reverse. It ended up being a broken rear leaf spring bolt that goes through the entire stack.
