Stiff Shifter
Lately, my NV4500 has been a little hard to shift into 2nd gear when at a full stop. It seems to shift OK if I shift right before coming to a full stop. The clutch is holding and there is no gear grind or problem with the other gears. Adjusted for tire size, I'm probably pushing close to 160K miles, and the cover has never been off.
I'm thinking stiff linkage:
* Does the linkage need to be lubricated?
* How?
* How hard to remove the console cover?
* How hard is it to install a short shift kit?
Thanks,
CR

Put the transmission in Nuetrual and remove the console and boot. There is a collar (I think) on the stick to hold it in. You got to push down and turn the collar to release it. Now lift straight out. Replace with short stick. Reverse to assemble...
This I know works on all older DODGE's & CHEVY Trucks... Never tried to pull a new dodge apart yet...

Thanks for all the info. It sounds like a fluid change is in order shortly.
I guess I'm still old school. I thought there would be "linkage" under the console that done the shifting. I also thought the short-shifter was like the old one's that actually replaced the linkage with shorter connectors.
A feller sure can learn a lot hanging around here.
Thanks Again,
CR
Hey Blue, did you make through Spring Break with no major incidents....good or bad?

FWIW, the OEM Castrol Syntorq LT is a 75W-85 GL-4
gear lubricant. Hard to get, and expensive, but if within warranty, that's the spec.
Redline actually recommends a 50/50 mix of their MTL/MT-90 to get the correct viscosity for the NV4500.
I've found a new company called Specialty Formulations that has an exacting fluid to the Syntorq. It's their MTL-P and costs $28.95 per gallon plus shipping. I have this stuff on order and will be using it to replace the Redline fill I'm currently running.

crobtex, I managed to stay out of jail and ticket free if that's what your asking. If your asking if it was good, it started off that way and then ended pretty cruddy. Good part was I got my 275's installed and now the truck runs like a champ.
