Startup Oil Pressure

Since I purchased the truck in Feb, I've noticed it takes what seems longer than normal for the oil pressure to build and show on the dash gauge....even to the point where right upon start up the "check gauges" light is on and then after about 4-5 seconds the gauge jumps up to normal and the light goes off. Yes, it's full of oil. I know startup is the most critical for oil delivery but was wondering if others have the same issue? Thanks for your $.02.

You sure the check guages light is not on for the voltage being pulled down during startup? Mine did that when I had a weak battery. And mine has always taken a few seconds to register on the guage.

Yes, all connections are tight and no corrosion. Batts are about 1yr old but I understand your reasoning. It just seems the oil psi should jump to normal almost right away even w/the engine warm. Maybe I'm just over reacting but I've never come across this w/other motors gas or diesel. thanks for the .02. Jared

mine takes about 1 second to start moving and then moves smoothly to final pressure. if yours is jumping it may be your sender.

i have noticed and i think i have seen on here before that dodge made them that way. it takes about 3 or 4 seconds for mine to work. none of dodge's gauges are all that accurate. you should be fine

ok, thanks for the replies. Finally received my commander yesterday so with it installed I should now be able to monitor things closer.

My 98.5 does the same thing. It is because the oil pressure sending unit is located high on the engine, and does not "see" pressure right away. There is oil pressure as soon as the engine starts turning, it just takes a couple of seconds for it to reach the sending unit to tell you you have oil pressure. No troubles. I searched on here and found that it is common on the early engines, and nothing to worry about. My friend's '01 and his brother's '02 show pressure right away. But I think the later ones were "fixed" so people would not worry about the delay.

JS thanks for the confirmation. Without this site, I know a ton of us would be doing the same thing over and over and over again.......
I will quit worrying about it.
