Well, first off want to say hello to everyone. This is my first post on this great site.
Second, from what I understand 1693 is a "companion code" just telling you that a code has been read, hell of a deal huh? P0230 is "fuel pump primary circuit malfunction". Maybee someone with more experience can chime in and pinpoint that for you, all I would be doing is guessing. Good luck.
okie
ps. By the way, www.troublecodes.net has the codes listed.

0230 is an interruption in the power supply to the lift pump. could be result of a dead LP, or a bad relay.
Dead LP causing low primary fuel pressure can result in a sputtering situation for sure, or the truck falling flat on its face.

yes, try the relay connector. I have seen those units, out of the box, with poor spade connector joints inside the relay connector body.
Wiggle some wires, see what happens, if you have an intermittent sound from the pump, then you have a bad connection at the relay. this is one of the more common problems I have seen with aftermarket relays, not just in lift pumps, but lighting harnesses and anything else requiring relays.
Good luck

Next thing, throw a known good relay in there, and see if it clicks or not when triggered. then you need to check for power at the pump. If there is power at the pump end of the wiring, and a good ground, then you have a pump problem.
Grounds can be a pig, just a word to the cautious. check it really well

And what happens if you continue to drive with this code? My fuel pump is still on the block, and not in the tank...I am going to replace the pump in a few weeks, but for now, I have to drive it as is for a few weeks....

Open up the relay center under the hood and one of the relays is for the fuel pump circuit, the relay may be toast. There are a number circuits in the box that use the same relay. I got the same code 230 when my lift pump went belly up and I think it fried the relay. I pulled the relay for the fog light circuit and put it the pump relay circuit, new pump and no more codes.

I guess I should be more specific...Changed the fuel filters a few weeks ago, and noticed that when the key was on, the pump did not fill with diesel. Never considered the relay. At the same time, I got a code for camshaft sensor issue. Could the 2 be related? I am going to change the relay out tomorrow, and if that does me no good, I will install a new pump (on the block) this weekend. I have changed the camshaft sensor, and the truck still jumps and belches. I am fairly sure I will require a new pump. Is there a relay under the hood that is not vital to the truck? One I might just be able to swap for a day or two?
