Sounds more like the speed sensor in the tranny then the speed sensor on the rear differential.
The one on the diff is cheap and easy, not sure on the one in the tranny.
Speed sensor on the diff is tied to speedometer and ABS,
and usually an intermittent speedometer or intermittent ABS light will show up.
P501 is usually the rear diff one though.

thanks for the reply phox, i dont show any abs lights or anything like that. I am getting a code reader tomorrow from a buddy and i am going to clear the codes and see if any come back. When i talked to the tranny guy he said that it may not show up when you do the key cycle to check for codes. Any other input would be great, thanks again
