Question SO VP44 or HO VP44

Can someone please educate me on what is a SO VP44 or a HO VP44?

HO must stand for High Output?

Is there a big difference than a stock VP44?

Are they better than like a dragon fire?

Thanks,
Steve

The SO pump was used on the 235hp engine, the HO pump was used on the 245hp engine that came out in '01.

There is no bump in power from swapping to an HO from an SO. The HO runs a higher pressure with smaller plungers and responds better to injectors. The SO pump responds better to wiretap fueling boxes, which is why a lot of HO guys swapped to SO pumps when their VP44 died.

Going from HO to SO costs you a little low end (which is compensated by a Smarty or fueling box), but the top end is much stronger. When I had a TST, there wasn't much difference beyond level 5. When I went to the SO pump, it was amazing how much harder the upper levels hit.

Now that I'm no longer running a fueling box, I went back to the HO to run with my Smarty/Mach 4 combo.

Just to add to what AggieJustin already mentioned, the HO has a more aggressive fueling cam but the SO is capable of supplying more fuel. The Hot Rod VP is supposed to be a combination of both SO plungers and HO fueling cam.

From your sig it looks like a dragon fire or hot rod vp44 may be a nice addition to your truck.

To really get a good idea I would contact Bluechip diesel and see what they think...

I have actually heard the the SO pumps are all around better plus the over all cost of replacing a HO pump is outrageous and totally not worth it (no much flow difference if not the same) really no advantage with the HO being better than the SO IMO

The HO and SO pumps are actually the same price. I just went back to the HO on mine when my last SO was dying since I don't have any plans to go back with another wiretap fueling box.
