Exclamation So confused

Ok, so I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 w/ the Cummins 5.9L ISB. I also have an Edge Comp, AFE stage 2 intake, rebuilt aftermarket Bosch VP44 (rated at 255HP instead of 235HP, also has about 8,000 miles on it), 4" straight exhaust, FASS 150/150 and the turbo waste gate has been opened to allow up to 30 PSI.

My problem is that I think I got a tank of contaminated fuel (contaminated with water, or something else). I think this because the Water in Fuel light, Check Engine Light and Check Guages light come on, also the temp gauge goes from 0 to 240 back to 0 a lot, but will sometimes show the actual temp. The Oil pressure, voltage and Fuel gauges work and read just fine. The truck does start and run, but kinda rough some times, and smooth other times. It has very little power and some times it won't rev very hard, but other times runs fine.

So, I drained the fuel and filled up with fresh fuel and replaced the fuel filter. The weird thing is that its doing the same thing. I tried removing the performance computer completely, but made no change. What else can I try or should I bite the bullet and take it into my local diesel repair shop?

I don't have any equipment to pull codes with. I've been meaning to buy a smarty (obviously that hasn't happened yet), but short answer is no.

Well dont be so confused and get the codes read. When that light is on there is an obvious problem. The water in fuel and temp guage issues could also lead in to the driveabilty problem.

I don't think it has to do with contaminated fuel. The fact that other cluster functions act up at the same time the WIF light comes on tells me there is a cluster or wiring problem. Check your system voltage next time the cluster acts up.

Have you tried the key trick to check codes?

Torquefan - It does it constantly, and the system voltage is fine. I checked both batteries and the voltage off the alternator and they are both at what they should be.

S-Cube - I have not, but that is a good idea, I should give it a shot in the morning when I feel more up to it.

"Key trick" has been worthless for me. Drive to the parts store and borrow their scanner. You can put the scanner on a credit card & get credit when you return it if the Ram is not running and you have to drive another vehicle. I read about ground issues causing similar problems. Perhaps get a wiring diagram & check the ecu grounds but start with the scan.

So, I had the codes pulled. I got 10 codes out of the computer, including a ECM failure. I broke down and took it to the diesel mechanic (Done lots of work with him, and he is a good friend so I know he is trust worthy). His opinion is really only to replace the ECM as we did the power drain, but as soon as we turned the key back on it threw the codes again.

He might not want to hear what they mean if the symptoms he listed are any guess... My VP did some strange stuff electronically after it went. The sporadic power and idle are what I'd be worried about.

I doubt it could it could be a VP issue, but here are the codes:

P0121 - Accelerator Position Sensor (APPS) Signal Voltage Too Low
P0177 - Water In Fuel Sensor Voltage Too Low
P0237 - Turbocharger Boost Pressure Sensor Low
P0238 - Turbocharger Boost Pressure Sensor High
P0343 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit High Input
P0562 - Battery Voltage Low
P0563 - Battery Voltage High
P0606 - Internal ECM Processor
P1475 - Fan Relay (Low) Circuit Malfunction
