smoking crankcase vent.....???
I have a 99 4x4 that I got last year with 145,000 freeway miles, now since after an oil change I would smell burning oil at a stop-light and finally lifted the hood and saw it was coming from the crankcase vent tube. I extened it to the lower frame rail so I wouldn't smell it now at a stop-light I see wispy smoke. any ideas on what it could be or am I doomed for a rebuild. I haven't noticed any power loss but it had alot of miles when I got it to notice it. help I want this baby to last till 300,000

Dont be alarmed. This is what these motors do, especialy after an oil change. The smell will go away after around 1000 miles depending on the brand of oil used and the light vapor smoke probably wont go away. The reason is because these motors are of the few allowed to have an open vented system. Most others recirculate the crank case vent back into the engine. Its good you moved the vent because the oily vapors can collect on the radiator and cause dirt to clog it up and also get everything else under the hood oily. But becareful that the 3/4 in hose you ran back under the engine does not sag anywhere or the oil will puddle inside the hose and block the venting which will blow a seal in the motor.
