Lots of Smoke from blowby tube

New to forum new to diesel. I get a lot of smoke from blowby tube. Seems to have quite a bit of crankcase pressure. Adjusted valves, they were way out. I do have a leak (oil) at the vaccum pump that I am getting fixed. What might cause so much smoke from blowby. 200K. Thanks for any info.

some guys have the vac pump go bad and pressureize the crank case, other common reasons could be; too much oil, worn turbo, bad head gasket...that is where I would look first.

Blow by is excess crankcase pressure caused by compression blowing past the rings into the crankcase. Does it use oil? How is it on power?

FYI A vacuum pump will not cause crankcase pressures to be excessive. Its a vacuum pump not an air pump.

I thought I was getting smoke but it turned out to be condensation I believe. Haven't seen it since the temp changed.

Some smoke is normal. How much smoke are you talking about? If you're looking at it at night with a flashlight it looks bad. Mine smokes pretty good after a hard run but I think that's normal.

At times it is quite a bit of smoke, at others can't even see it. Normally it's after a good run. Can't answer the oil use question just yet, haven't had the truck long, and do have leak in vaccum pump( in process of getting it fixed).Engine runs great, no miss or rough running, good fuel mileage. Valves were way out of adjustment ( probably never been checked before). Just trying to learn all I can about the diesel. When i get the vac pump fixed will get back.

You can also change the oil to (for example) Valvoline Premium Blue or some other recommended oil. I've seen excessive blowby caused by the wrong oil. If it's caught in time the engine won't be damaged, if not ....
