Slow shift out of 1st

Last week after starting out to do some shopping I noticed the tranny was hanging in first gear longer then usual before shifting. Have not had any other problems up until this point. I have had the tranny serviced every 12000 miles because we tow a 5th wheel. We just returned from Florida and had no problems at all during that trip. The tranny was serviced just before we left there. The shifting problem did not start until about 3 weeks after our return. It seems to be doing it most of the time now. It does eventually shift and then there are no other problems noticed. The truck has about 69,000 miles on it now. Any ideas as to what might be causing the late shift and could this be the beginning of a "big" poblem? I checked the fluid level this morning and its' normal.

Mine's been doing that a lot to lately. Hangs to around 2200 rpm where as every other gear shifts out at 1800. I've got around 66,500 on my truck. It's been doing it since before that though.

That's the way mine was before the big tranny failure. Not saying yours is to that point yet, but I would at least have the bands adjusted. Most likely, it is the second gear band out of adjustment causing the slow shift to second.

update

Took the truck in today. They pulled the codes and found the speed sensor to be the culprit. Had a low electrical output and probably not far from complete failure. They replaced the sensor and I had them drop the pan and check the bands. No problems in there. Everything is back to normal now. Glad it wasn't anything major (yet).

Thanks for the update. Think I'm gonna have mine taken in and see how everything goes.
