Sloopy shifter on a 6spd H.O.
I am doing some work on a friends truck who has the same truck as I do, 2001.5 H.O. 6spd. It was very obvious as soon as I drove away something is very wrong with his shifter. Its sloopy as heck, and hard to find the gears, very tough to get into reverse. He hadn't noticed for some reason, probably been a gradual thing.
Anyway, I took the console cover off and then the 4 bolts holding the shifter tower onto the trans. I could not see anything wrong, I thought there maybe needs to be some sort of bushing or something but I saw no remnants of an old worn out one. And when I talked to the parts guy at the dealership, he said there was no bushing or anything like that shown in the parts catalog.
He suggested buying the whole tower assy and seeing if that helps.
Any ideas?

If he drives with his hand resting on the gear lever it's probably worn all kinds of things and that would also account for the hard shifting. I would change the oil in the gear box (get the correct oil) it helped with the tough shifting on mine, it was like night and day.

Its not that its hard to shift, its hard to find the gear because the shifter has so much slop in it. And because of the slop it is tough to get th erail to move completely into gear at times.
I did some research on here, it does look like it is supposed to have a plastic bushing on the end of the shifter, but unfortunately I can not find availability on the part anywhere. The dealer can't tell me whether it comes with the shifter tower or not.

No way. That cannot be possible. Call these guys and ask the if they might have it
www.zbag.com
Otherwise ask anybody that has one transmission for core to give (or sell) the part.
