slight engine surge w/ light throttle?
My engine has a slight surging feel that Ive started to notice when I am giving it a VERY light amount of throttle(almost none) at rpms around 1500 and above and in a lower gear(1-3, maybe 4). About the same time I started feeling this "surging" (about 3000mi ago), my truck produced the codes 1693 and 0522--I looked these codes up and from what Ive read they shouldnt be related to the surging Ive been noticing, but I could be wrong since Ive been told the key-switch-code-producing method isnt very reliable. Like I siad this "surging" is barely noticeable (right now) but experience tells me that minor annoyances like this tend to get worse and can create other problems down the road.
If any of you guys have any Ideas id love to hear them.
Thanks, Drew

If I were you, I'd go buy a scanner see whats really there. I think NAPA has a sale going right now. 1693 is a companion code. There are more codes that need to be read. Plus having the scanner, you'll be the envy of your friends who will bring beer in exchange for reading their codes.

Just reading the daily posts and came to this one. What kind of scanner would a person be looking for if I wanted to buy one? It might come in handy plus its another gadget for the tool box, also something to get the mind going.. Thanks

i have the same problem, and my MPG has gone from about 17 to 15 (thought it was the programer at first, then removed the programins and nothing changed.)...I was thinking maybe the "fuel filter" i haven't changed it for about 7,000 miles. also i occasionaly get P1688??? don't know what it means.

My truck threw a 1688 when my vp went. My truck just up and died. That was before I knew anything about these trucks. Hope you dont have an 0216 to go with it. D.S. I would be checking the fuel pressure from the pump, and try the reset procedure for the apps. There are instructions in the FAQ section under 24v engine and drivetrain.

Thanks for the replies, Ive got an appointment w/ a local mechanic to put a code reader on my truck and see what needs to be done.

i had the problem, i got to thinking about it and it had been a while since i had chenged my "fuel filter". so i changed it and now i have not noticed the surge....knock on wood. I had tried draining the water/ fuel out....still had the surge. time will only tell if that helped it of if the IP is really going bad.
