Slave Cylinder/ Clutch issues
2002 2500 4x4 nv5600
Just had the transmission rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago. It has been a little "knotchy" going into gear, trying to go to first while stopped, you sometimes have to hit 2nd, then up to 1st. I thought maybe it just needed to break in or something.
In the last 10k it has gotten to the point, that with the clutch pedal fully engaged the truck is still moving.
I decided to install a new slave cylinder kit from the factory. Just put it in, and while it is better, the truck still acts like it wants to move a little with the clutch engaged. Also, if I start it in gear, it feel like it might be hung in the gear a little. If I let the clutch out, and move the truck a few feet, I can then get it out of gear.
What do I do now?
Do I need to get the upgraded slave cylinder with the adjustable rod? Do I take the truck back to the transmission shop? If, so any ideas what the problem might be other than the slave cylinder not fully releasing the clutch?
Thanks, Chris.

If you replaced the slave cyl and bled it then it could be the master cyl or it could be the pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft. I would change the master cyl and if it still does it take it back to the trans shop. They could have checked and lubed prior to re installation.

Busboy,
Thanks.
The slave and master come as a prebled kit from Dodge. I installed both yesterday, and still having the problem.
When the transmission was installed, I had a new clutch kit installed, which should have included the new bearing.
I have a call into the shop, waiting on them to call me back.
Thanks.

I think hard shifting is related to the pilot bearing having too much friction. I read a report on this site that even with a DD clutch, the premium ball bearing pilot helped to have totally effortless release and shifting.

Hopefully the shop had the sense to grease the transmission input shaft splines and the throwout bearing. The latter is a VERY common mistake, even in good shops. Don't ask me why, I haven't a clue. Either of these two things could make the clutch drag, causing difficulty shifting.
Another mistake that could foul things up quite nicely is if the shop mashed the pilot when they were installing the transmission causing the pilot to drag.
Two other things to be aware of is that YOU MUST USE SYNTHETIC OIL in the nv5600. The syncros will gum up from the heat and become impossible to shift. And there is a part in the synchromesh unit that is often indexed incorrectly. Different symptoms, though. I believe the improper index causes a pulsing in the shifter when changing gears.
