Simple Q: Oil Pan Drain Plug 99 CTD
Ive just replaced the engine oil in my cummins..after a few miles I see a little leak at the drain plug..2 or 3 little drops. Ive re installed the original plug with its plastic washer. my question is: is it possible Ive lost an o-ring or maybe another rubber washer? 99 drain plug has an o-ring w the drain plug?
Ive saw other engines with an o-ring to ensure a tight sealing...
now I have to re drain all the oil, so I want to make things correct.
thanks for the help!

check the center of the drain plug.
There is a chance it could be cracked, and leaking, I have seen quite a few do this after many oil changes.
Rarely do they actually leak from the sealing washer area.

Agree! Took me 5 yrs but finally installed 'MOTO' locking drain valve. No leaks and no more hot oil all over your hands.
Spring loaded lock can't vibrate open.

About a year or so ago, I though I had stripped out the threads on the oil pan. The oil plug would get tight, then kind of 'pop' and would get loose again. I could get the plug snug, but not tight and just lived with the slight drip and the truck marking it's teritory.
The other night, I was changing the oil in preparation for a camping trip towing my trailer. It was kind of late, around 9pm and I was leaving for the trip in the morning. As I was cleaning the drain plug up before reinstalling it, the flange fell off in my hand. Looks like I found the source of my drip. The drain plug had cracked all the way around the plug and finally came completely off the plug.
Late in the evening, no oil in the truck, no place open to get another one... and I was supposed to leave in the morning. Luckily, I was able to clean the two pieces up, drive the flange back on the plug, and TIG the two pieces back together. Now I can tighten the plug up tight and after 600 miles of towing, there is not one drop of oil around the drain plug. I think the plug is now stronger than it was new.

thats exactly what happened to me! need the truck for the next day,I over tighten and cracked the drain plug. except I did go get a new plug from the Dodge dealer, but I did mig up my old one as a spare. I now have the drain valve (from fosters truck/larry B)If I recall correctly it was not much more than a stock plug.
the stock plug is not very robust thats for sure
