shifts back and forth into OD and Drive

I have a 1999 Dodge turbo diesel 4x4 and when I am driving at about 40 - 45 it will shift from drive to OD back and forth. My ex husband said it did that before and they replaced the sensor in the transmission oil pan where the filter is. He said it is called odometer speed sensor. I called the dealer ship and they said it has two sensors, transducer pressure sensor and a solenoid sensor. Has anyone ever had this problem and have they ever had to replace either of these sensors.........Thank Joyce

Are you sure it is shifting from 3rd to OD and not comming in and out of lock-up?? Both are pretty typical issues with our tranny's and why most don't bother with having the ******* fix them.

.....actually if you monitored it with a scan tool you would see the JTEC is only doing what it thinks it's being told. Make sure the batteries are GOOD and the connections are clean. Next "flavor of the week" is to eliminate the two connectors near the right battery with the blk/tan wire and solder them together. If that doesn't take care of it there is a mirad of other things to try. Sometimes bad alt brushes can cause this electrical interferance too.

I had the same problem pretty bad too. All over these forums you'll find things about tinfoil shielding different wires coming from the comp, cleaning the ground connections at the batteries and the comp, and what worked for me, the APPS reset.
tough to tell what your specific problem might be but I would try these things first. theyre cheap, fairly easy to do and basically can't mess much up if you do them wrong

shifts in and out of over dreive

i had the same problem with my 1999 4x4 yes checking and tighting the battery cabels is the first thing. Then mine would do it only when driving normal like leaving the light normal, but if i mashed the pedal from a light and let it run it would shift fine i found a rewiring kit for the APPS i found it on ebay and the guys name is Tony check ebay under dodge parts for (47re trans) the kit worked great know i tow my 15000 lb toy box great. For $60 it was worth the shoot before buying a new trans. Hope this helps

I had the same problem with mine. I solved it by cleaning the contact on the wire coming out of the back of the alternator. This is an electrical noise problem and NOT a tranny problem. You most likely have a 47re tranny. The E standsfor electronic. Like mentioned before, search this forum for tranny problems. Most people solve this problem with just a little cleaning.

If that doesn't work http://www.dieseltrans.com/dodge/price_list.htm See "noise filter" PN KW-5535 for $47.00, I've had one for 3 years and all's well.

I had the same problem. I cleaned the battery cables but, it did not help on my truck. I replaced both sensors in the tranny. It has been perfect ever since.

I had the same problem and had the dealership scan it and it didn't come up with anything. They wanted to me to replace the APPS sensor I think, but they wanted a pretty penny for it and i continued to drive it as is. Then disconnected batteries and cleaned posts and have never had a problem since. Hope this helps, but have heard of many ways to fix this problem.
