shifting into overdrive

My truck seems to take a long time to shift into overdrive, seems to linger for awhile and then once it shifts it shoots forward picking up speed with the pedal staying at the same spot.

This is my first Dodge Diesel and I'm a bit embarassed about asking but I need to know, is this normal behavior for these trucks?

Had a 6.5 TD Chevy before, didn't shift like that.

Bought the truck used @78000 kl. six months ago.
Real happy with this awesome truck, only wondering about the shifting since I read so many posts about tansmission problems.

Apreciate any and all comments.

That sounds pretty much normal for overdrive. You are feeling everything going into lockup and you have a direct mechanical connection from the engine to the rear wheels. What you feel for power in lockup is what an aftermarket tranny feels like in all the gears.

You may not be "Driving through" the shift. Also may be shifting into O.D. too soon, due to possibly driving it too gently.
Take it out on the highway and run it throught the gears at 1/3 throttle, minimum. If it shifts smoothly - than tranny is ok and it's your job to get use to the deisel difference.

I keep my O.D. off around town and anytime I'm under 50-55 mph.
If O.D. is only shift problem-hit the button on the end of the shift lever and keep it off under 50 mph.
Runs better and shifts smoother.
Good Luck - let us know if this works.
